New Perspectives of Environmental Modelling and Simulation
Achym Sydow, GMD
New simulation technologies are based on
- distributed simulation (model connections)
- parallel computing
- incorporation of GIS
- 3D graphics
- remote sensing data
- image processing
- input-output-analysis by learning methods
The impact of these technologies on environmental modelling and simulation will be described. Examples and projects are located in areas like
- analysis and forcast of air pollution in micro-, meso- and large scale, e.g. transboundary air pollution in Europe,
- environmental risc management,
- traffic simulation and analysis including air pollution,
- global climate change,
- sustainable developement of regions under economic, ecological and social criteria.
